Robert Stead returned to the accordion after a 40 year hiatus! He studied accordion until he was 13 and then, upon entering high school, began playing the flute. He never lost his love of the power and sound of the accordion. In the Spring of 2003 he decided to return to the instrument. After conferring with MAS member John Castiglione of The Castiglione Accordion Company, he purchased an Excelsior 980 free bass (seen in the picture). Robert has a degree in Music Education from Wayne State University. He still plays flute in the Michigan Flute Orchestra and the Rose Flute Ensemble as well as doing solo work. His day job places him in the Computer Services department of Wayne County RESA where he serves the school districts of Wayne County. He also teaches web related classes at Henry Ford Community College. In addition to the MAS web site, Robert is also the webmaster for The Classical Free-Reed, Inc--a site that was originally develop by accordionist Henry Doktorski. |
